Not too bad for her first one. We'll see how she does with the chocolate cake in November.

A view to melt a mother's heart... or a librarian's

And since I currently am both... I have nothing left but a big ol' puddle!

I knew my little angel loved books. But going in to tuck him into bed one night, I noticed he was sleeping with his train book (and by "his," I really mean John's... the book is currently confiscated in a three-year-old vrs. daddy property dispute). When I pulled back the covers, however, it turned out to be one incredible stash!

Witness the “Oh S#@%!” moment

Oh, yes he did.

Cause, you know -
"Go wash your hands"
is so easily mistaken for
"Please rip down the wall paper in the bathroom. I think it looks lovelier in heaps on the floor than neatly plastered to the wall."

In kid language, that is.

There's a good boy.

A little sibling rivalry

I love taking pictures of my kids. Rain or shine, clothed or not, behaved or impish... it all gets recorded.

Take my gorgeous baby girl, for instance. Mary Alice is only 6 months old, but she is starting to become a fiesty little thing - rabble rousing and pickin' fights with her brother.

Don't believe me? (C'mon... don't pretend that wasn't you I heard snickering.)

Well, I have the photos to prove it, my friend. (I'll even give you the play by play...)

Tom: (singing random lines from the Puff the Magic Dragon song at the top of his lungs.)

Mary Alice: "My word, you are off-key.... and by the way, the correct lyrics are "...lived by the sea and FROLICKED in the AUTUMN MIST..." not "...lived by the sea with the frog and the hippopotamus..."

Tom: "Oh yeah... what do you know?"

Mary Alice: "I know that you have foolishly come within striking distance of my overly-grabby infant hand during my quintessential grab-and-yank developmental stage."

Tom: "Oh, it's so on..."

Mary Alice: "Bring it!"

Awww... aren't they sweet?

The correct answer is yes, by the way.

NO way!...

... some actual pictures? Amazing!

Ok, so I caved. I had to. There was no other choice... Honestly! You understand, right?

More like you are asking what in the wide world I am talking about, but its a start... let's go from there.

So, my story goes something like this... I went to the store to buy more film for my camera and when I couldn't find any, I asked the 18-ish year old punk with pink hair and multicolored fingernails who stocked the photo section where they kept their camera film. He looked at me quizzically, like I had dropped out of some old western movie and asked for a sarsaparilla or something. Then he looked directly in my face and actually suggested that they might have discontinued carrying film... *gulp*

Say WHAT???

THE HORROR! THE ABSOLUTE HORROR!

Well, it turned out that they did have some film still in stock... they had one two-pack left buried under the counter and it cost me like $10, but I got it.

The experience left me scarred, however. SCARRED, I tell you.

So, I bought a digital camera. There, I said it - I caved. I had to beat down all the archival training I have received over the last seven years and leave it as a sacrifice on the altar of the photo gods. Ain't no one gonna part me and my pictures! Better some pictures (even if digital files are corruptible and usually won't last 10 years - frequently lost to the boogey mans and monsters that haunt cyberspace) than no pictures at all, right?

Anyway, here are some of the photos I have taken with my brand new, sparkling symbol of cognitive dissonance. The ginormous stock pile of pictures from my regular film camera (which I have accumulated over the last four months) is still sitting waiting to be scanned (because like it or not, life hasn't slowed down since school ended... *sigh*) I will hopefully get to it a bit at a time. Meanwhile, enjoy these recent photos of the kids.

And coming up later this week... A visit from the family and a trip to the American West Heritage Center... exciting!
