Well, folks, we are still on day one of our NOLA trip - after leaving Oak Alley, we headed out to Nottoway Plantation, but we made a little stop in Donaldsonville first to see a really beautiful church and cemetery there. Take a look.
You have to love that detail! The windows are particularly beautiful.
Call us a bit morbid, but we love going through cemeteries -and Louisiana has some of the neatest ones around. Particularly in New Orleans (we will get to those later). Most of the cemeteries have monuments that are above ground because the water table is so close to the surface that you actually spring a leak if you dig more than three feet under the dirt. Donaldsonville, though, isn't quite as bad as New Orleans, being a bit farther from the Mississippi delta area.
One last fun place to show you:
We had to take a picture of this house because it is a dyed-in-the-wool trailer home. But some loving owner has bricked in the foundation and made some lovely brick pillars, steps and a mailbox. That is some classy white trash! (Actually I am seriously jealous of the brick mailbox - I want one!)
