Out of bed

SO, we have been doing a lot of house renovations lately - mostly in the basement (someday, we will post finished pictures of them.... we hope.) A typical evening scenario for our family is to have dinner, then bathe, brush, and put the kiddies down to bed (a Herculean endeavor in its own right), and then John and I go down to the basement and work.

Just to set the mood, here is what our basement currently looks like (and this is the pretty side.)

Well, one night, we could hear a lot of giggling coming from the kids room upstairs.

Not yelling or running or any of that

"Mooooom, Mary Alice is out of beeeed"

or the

"Moooom, Thomas took my bwanket"

or the

"Moooom, I need a drink of water"

business that we usually get at night.

Just giggling.

And after a long day at work and facing a long evening of working in the unfinished almost-hellish nightmare that is our basement, the only thing I want to hear from the kiddos' room is snoring.

So, I go pounding up the stairs, ready to unleash a serious amount of naughty-out-of-bed-kid justice and I find this:

Now, I ask you.... How do you stay mad?

So darn cute, I can't stand it

Today was one of those days.

The kind where you look at your kids and wonder - "When did you start growing up?"

It probably seems so trivial - sitting in a booster chair instead of a high chair and biting his own piece of pizza instead of having it cut up for him. But to me, it is a milestone. My baby is growing up!

And he is COMPLETELY thrilled about it!

Disclaimer: I don't usually feed the children straight from the table. I am a good, god-fearin', plate-usin', utensil-settin' kinda mom. But Dad did dinner this time - so we rolled with it.
