Thomas on "Change"

Grandma Christine emailed me the following the other day:

"On the way home from school he began to explain to us about "change". He was surprisingly eloquent with his examples. He said, "Change isn't just about your underwear. Things change all the time. People move to new houses all the time, and then they go to a new school and a new church. If a house burns down, a new one gets built and that's a change too. Or we get a different car. Change happens all the time. It's normal. It's okay. And on and on and.....
I asked, "Tom, did your teacher talk to you today about change?"
"No. I just know about these things."

So there you have it, from the mouth of one of those babes with wisdom beyond his own...."

My insurance policy

Hello my sweet babies,
This is my loving motherly reminder to your future selves that these kind of photos are alive and well and in large quantity on my hard drive and other digital repositories I shall not name at present. For now (and to me always!), they are cute and adorable snapshots of your young innocent selves. I will cherish them and keep them safe, always.

In the future, however, they may become my weapons of mortification, should you pursue an unsuitable romantic interest, decide to join the military, or quit college.

You have been warned.

Tom-isms for a new year

Our Thomas is a talker. He could talk till the end of time and still have a few things left to say. This penchant for talking makes a strange bedfellow with his quirky 6-year old observations. So, without further ado, here are his latest quips:


"Valentine's Day is soooooo boring. Its only about looove." (uttered with high disdain.)

and

While getting buckled into our family van with his Aunt Sue at the wheel, he proceeds with his interrogation:

"Sue, do you know how to drive this van? Have you ever done it before?"

Sue: "Yes, Tom. Several times before. Don't you remember?"

Thomas: "In all my 6 years, I've never seen you drive it."
