Building bridges 2

This is our second attempt at building a bridge.

We decided to make a double decker - so we had to get some building materials sturdier than marshmallows. And it is amazing how well gum drops work!

Tom was pretty proud of his creation - since once again, he built the vast majority of it by himself. In fact, as much as Mom was excited to help out with the bridge, the most "Foreman Tom" would allow her to do is hand him the gum drops. (And it wasn't such a bad task after all, since she did what any good helper would do - eat the good tasting ones and hand over the nasty ones.)


But Tom's little sister does not care what the gum drops tasted like - they were sugar. So she ate the final creation. I would say "Poor Tom," but I believe he helped her out...

Building bridges

One of my most favorite things about our Thomas is that he has a very vivid imagination. Combined with his love of building things (and tying things up), he is one fun kid to hang out with.

So, one stormy day, he asked if he could build a bridge. Not having a ready supply of bridge building materials on hand, here is what we came up with.



And believe it or not, he did most of the building. Once we showed him how the trusses worked, he took right to it!


And then the imagination kicked in. I thought he was adding a second story to the bridge (which was slightly worisome considering the joints were being held together with marshmallows... )

But that was not his intention at all. Apparently the bridge was now a cake - and a cake needed candles.

And those candles needed to be lit.

And blown out.
