Things kids say

Thomas:

When Thomas woke his Aunt Sue up at 5:45 a.m. the other morning, she very graciously told him it was WAY to early to be up because - look- the sun wasn't even up yet. So, it was probably a good idea to go back to bed for while longer. To which he replied "Sue, I don't need to have the sun. I can see in the dark. I'm nocturnal."

Mary Alice:

Ever wonder what you sound like to your children? Every once in a while, I hear our phrases repeated out of the children's mouths and I am either horrified or amused. Sometimes both. The other day, as Mary Alice was playing with her Legos, Henry was tearing apart her Lego train as quickly as she could build it. In her frustration, she turned to him and said in exasperation,

"Dang it, child!"

I couldn't stop laughing. From one child to another. It certainly does highlight how much she looks at him as a baby, as compared to her mature 2 years and 9 months. She loves nothing more than mothering him and he is usually fairly patient about it. But I sure do hope we don't always sound that frustrated to her.

My little helpers

Laundry time goes *so quick* with these three little helpers.

Mary Alice, who loves to be Mama's little helper, really enjoys helping to make waffles on the weekends.

But she really hates getting batter on her hands.

Sometimes, it just kills me how quickly they are growing up.

Wind power

Here is Thomas's new invention of the day :

buildings running off of wind power

We didn't have the heart to tell him that his alternate power source came from a not-so-alternate-powered AC.
But at least he is on the right track.

24th of July

Why, hello folks! Welcome to my desperate "end-of-summer-where-did-the-time-go" photo blogging catch up. Are you ready?

Here are our photos from the 24th of July Pioneer Day celebrations here in Utah. Well, we didn't really DO any of the traditional Pioneer Day celebrations because we were trying to finish up some of the work on our kitchen before the countertop guys came the next day. Our poor kiddos.

Doesn't he look deprived? Seriously, though, these munchkins missed out on a lot of the 4th of July activities, so in the evening on the 24th, we conceded and did some fireworks with them. So, for the sake of the future "You never let me...." arguments that we will have in the coming years, here's the proof that we tried.

Here's John helping the kids with the snap-poppy stuff. I can't remember what they are called right off.

While these definitely don't have the usual firework "bling" to them, they can be a whole lot of fun. Kind of like the bubble wrap you use for packaging. You can't ever get enough of hearing them pop.

Here is Henry's contribution to the evening's activities. He guarded the emergency water bucket and tasted the contents in case there was a need for him to put out a flame with his super-baby drool. (Those teething years are more useful than you think.)

And here is one shot of John lighting off the "big" fireworks. We don't get very adventurous at our house, even with the new super-lenient laws on airborne fireworks that all of our neighbors took advantage of this year.

Now, this next progression of photos is much more entertaining if you scroll through them fast. Kind of like those flip books you used to make in junior high while the substitute science teacher bored everyone to death telling you for the umpteenth time the story of how he lost his three left fingers and his glorious future as a shop teacher in one horrific accident that should have been a lesson in safety procedures but was really just a regular routine in the 'stand-up-pity-me' happy hour that is middle school science class... aka Dante's ninth circle of hell.

I digress, though...

Just watch Tom's face as he watches John with the fireworks:

Love it! That kid has more expressions than an emoticon.

Well, thats it for this post. Stay tuned for more of the riveting Woolcott summer 2011.
