Once upon a time, Saturdays were the coveted day of the week - mostly because it was the one day we could sleep in.
Well, no more.
"Sleeping in" (with the emphasis on the sleeping part) hasn't happened in - oh, let's say... 6 years.
Instead, Saturday mornings have become family snuggle time.
This mostly consists of the kids climbing in bed with Mom and Dad and turning on the TV to the cartoons while Mom and Dad try to catch a few more ZZZZs. (Now, mind you, there are three other newer and bigger TVs in the house than the clunky ol' one in our room, but none of them will quite do.)
And they oh-so-faithfully promise that they will just snuggle with you and they won't make a sound or move a lot so you can still sleep.
But as any seasoned parent knows, this is a lie.
Because it is never just one child. Very soon another will discover this holy ritual of Saturday morning cartoon watching and snuggling in the parental bed has begun without them and they will hurriedly climb up to join the group.
And then another one.
And it is never just the children. Their wriggling, squirming little bodies are always accompanied by a host of stuffed animals and favorite blankets and pillows and an occasional sword or teapot.
And very soon, you find that a queen sized bed is no longer roomy enough for two adults, three kids, two teddy bears, a stuffed horse, a doll, a stuffed Mario, seven blankets (no lie here... Mary Alice sleeps with five and Tom with two...), five pillows, and at least one dangerously loaded diaper.
But...

.... although it is not really restful,
our Saturday morning tradition does come with some awesome perks!
